I'm going to Spain again in a few days and needed a new journal. But this time I'll be backpacking and want to reduce weight. My normal journal has a thick leather cover and is kinda bulky. I wanted something lighter and smaller, so I was gifted this travel journal with pictures of stamps on the cover. It seems to be decent quality. It is thin (almost exactly a quarter of an inch thick-I measured). I'm not exactly sure how much it weighs, but it is light. It fits my needs perfectly, and it looks cool too (many of the stamps have images of famous buildings and paintings from artists like Goya, El Greco, Romero, Picasso, etc.).
It is pretty basic on the inside. Hallelujah. I was searching for travel journals and many I've found have a lot of useless stuff (packing lists, blah blah blah). This one has nothing but lines on each page with a space at the top for the date/location. Every few pages there is a big space for drawing. It says "Sketch" (see photos). I may just place wine labels or stickers on those areas, but the idea to draw or sketch while traveling is interesting to me.
There is a small black and white map of the Iberian Peninsula at the very end (see photos). I'm not sure how helpful it will be, but perhaps cool to get a general sense of geography. Next to it there are some handy conversions (temperature, weight, length, volume). The temperature chart may be the most helpful.
I am a bit of a pen and paper snob, so I had to do some bleed/show-through tests (see photos). I guess the results of my experiments are that 1) regular gel and ballpoint pens work well with no bleed and negligible show-through, and 2) fountain pens do not bleed as much as I thought they would, but their show-through renders them unusable on this paper. At any rate, I'm not traveling with my fountain pens so the point is irrelevant. LOL.
